Beadmaking and Fusing Classes Now Available!!

Beginning beadmaking and fusing classes are available. All students are taught on an individual basis in my studio. Please call me at 231-392-9681 to make an appointment, or email me for more information.

Beadmaking Classes

Beginning Beadmaking I (4 hours, 125.00)

Studio safety is the first and most important topic we will cover. We will also go over studio set up, types of torches, and types of glasses used in lampworking. We will begin by learning how to make a basic bead, using gravity to achieve puckered ends, and heat control to make it balanced. We will go over topics like pulling stringer and making basic latticino, and using it in surface decoration.

Beginning Beadmaking II (6 hours 150.00)

A continuation of the first beadmaking class. We will discuss other bead shapes, such as tubes, tabs, and bicones. We will also learn about encasing a bead, and making a basic floral bead.

Comprehensive Beginner Beadmaking Weekend (16 hours total, 300.00)

Two full days of beadmaking, including the topics of the two above bead classes.  You will recieve an additional 5 hours of time on the torch to refine your skills.


Borosilicate Bead Making (4 hours 150.00)

This is an intermediate level class. Learn how to work with this facinating glass. We will go over borosilicate glass properties, differences of reduction and oxidizing flames and the color it will create, as well as layering colors to create new effects!

Encased Floral Beads (3 hours 100.00)

From making vine and stamen cane, to creating the paperweight look of your favorite floral beads, we will explore many of the different methods for doing floral beads.  Please, experienced beadmakers only.

Helpful Hints Sessions (35.00 per hour)

Basic Fusing and Slumping

Two day class, 200.00. We will discuss studio safety, glass compatibility, and kiln set up. We will then dive into glass cutting. Students have an option to do pendants, barrettes, tiles, or a plate. The first day we will create the project and then discuss the firing schedule. The piece will be fired that day. The student will come in on the second day, and we will discuss various coldworking techniques, such as grinding, using a bandsaw, hand polishing and fire polishing. We will also discuss the types of slumping molds and how to prepare one. The student will then cold work their piece, and the piece will then be slumped. Students may keep their finished pieces. All supplies are included. (Extra dichroic glass may need to be purchased if necessary)
